The Ministry of the Wooddale Bookstore

The tire pressure gauge on a desk in the bookstore serves as a reminder to Wooddale Bookstore and Ticket Desk Manager Cindy Fischer that there is a sense of pressure or urgency to the work being done there.

John 9:4 talks about how Jesus healed the man who was born blind. The verse says, As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work. Cindy says, “This is how it is for the staff of the Bookstore and Ticket Desk.”

The moment someone comes through the door of the Bookstore there is a “Hello” from across the room. Before customers have time to catch their breath, they feel quite welcome and sometimes you can catch a glimpse of a smile that wasn’t there when they came through the door.

But Cindy says there is urgency to the work. She says, “First, we want to help the customer feel welcome. Second, we want to discover their need: book, study guide, Bible, sign up for a class – the list goes on. Third, we want to let them know that we care.”

The most important point to the work being done in the Bookstore and Ticket Desk is that God is in control of everything. Cindy comments, “He taught us to make every moment count. Our objective is to help plant or nurture a seed in someone’s life – to help them get farther on the path that God has intended for them. When we do this, we will have a life that is well lived, radically obedient and emptied of self for God.”
