James calls on believers to live out their faith by paying attention to the Word of God. A person who does this is an “unnatural, out-of-the-ordinary-person.” James notes that living as an “unnatural person” liberates each one to live in freedom. He follows by giving three illustrations which show whether or not we are living in that manner.

Paul writes from prison, and even with that bleak surrounding, he takes time to rejoice because of Jesus Christ and the hope he brings. He acknowledges that his strength is from God, and that God holds the future in his hand. In Philippians 1:19-20 Paul points to the prayers of others and the Holy Spirit and resources for all Christ followers..

Selfish or Sincere?

Conflict is part and parcel of every life. Any two people can hold different opinions on most anything. We disagree over driving directions (even with our GPS), over the use of money, over decisions, and even over favorite sports teams. We even disagree on ministry and church life. Paul is in prison when he writes about two groups that are in conflict (Philippians 2:15-18).
