How can you be certain you have eternal life? The apostle John wrote these letters after Jesus died to affirm what Jesus taught — that people who follow Him could see evidence in their lives of His teachings of sound doctrine, obedience and love. These are character traits of Christians. Believers are not perfect but can experience joy and have the assurance of salvation as they see spiritual growth in their lives through John’s teachings.
