Turner’s Story

My faith journey started in the summer of my sophomore year of college. I went to a Christian school but still hadn’t grasped exactly what a relationship with Jesus meant. I decided to go on a summer-long mission trip in Chicago where college soccer players came together to coach soccer camps and teach local children about Jesus. While there, we got to play in a competitive summer league—which was the real reason I went. When I arrived, I quickly realized everyone was a dedicated Christian athlete who, throughout the summer, spoke about their personal relationship with Jesus, struggles before being saved and how happy they were now to be serving Him. Throughout the summer I remember wanting that joy and freedom they seemed to have and finally decided this must be the way. After summer and throughout the school year, I took time to grow more in my faith and started to feel that joy and freeness I was so envious of in the summer. Finally, in the spring, I decided to get a tattoo to remind myself of the triumph Jesus brings over our sin and as an easier way to start conversations with others about how I am living a new life, joyfully, because God chose to govern our world not merely as a Creator but as our Savior. -Turner

Then one of the elders said to me, “Don’t not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals.” -Revelation 5:5
