Strength and Growth…God’s Way

If you don’t know much about the process of getting stronger physically or building muscle, the first thing you should know is that it causes pain. Yes! Pain. Lifting weights to build strength and size requires you to break down the muscle fibers and cause injury. Yes! Injury. Then the muscle goes through a process of repairing itself. And when it repairs itself, it’s stronger and a little bit bigger. In the same way, God grows us as we persevere through challenging situations—if we trust the process. Just as it’s easier to sit on the couch, it’s easier to choose not to forgive. Doing the work means you have to do that which is hard to do. A lot of the time that requires you to be selfless, submissive, and sometimes silent.

Matthew 16:25 says: “If anyone wants to come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.” This is Jesus speaking, our example to follow. And Jesus experienced a most painful death on the cross! So, surely letting go and forgiving someone is possible, right? Choosing peace, grace, forgiveness is like choosing to pick up that 10lb or 12lb weight instead of the 8lbs you’ve been stuck on for ages. Choose to love anyway.
